The Doll Whisperer

Amani is nervous about starting school in the United States. Her parents migrated from a place called Thatta Kedona, also known as “A Village of Dolls,” in Pakistan. Her mother was a dollmaker back home. When the floods came, Amani and her parents were displaced and had to move. Amani is finding it hard to adjust to the new country. She often finds herself musing about her life back in the Village of Dolls. After school, she and her friends used to help her mother make the dolls and dress them up for sale. Amani finds that her current life has lost its color. She wonders whether she will ever feel the magic she used to feel there.
